Orlando Trip Blog: BC Champs Bowl and Vacation, December 27th-30th 2007

December 27th 2008

1:30 PM- Arrive at the airport and go through security. Somewhat of a busy day but its only Rochester so it was not so bad. I boarded my flight on time and we’re ready to go.

2:45PM- We’re about to leave the Gate when we are informed that JFK has shutdown because of problems in the air traffic control tower. It eventually opens back up but because we were delayed so long people were brought off the planes so they could get rebooked on later flights so they wouldn’t get stranded in JFK

3:30 PM- Still the same deal, more and more people are brought off the plane in order to get rebooked.

4:00 PM- I get off the plane to get my flight rebooked. I’m now on a 7:50 pm flight that will get in around 10:40 PM. I had a seat in the first row as well, not a bad deal.

5:00 PM- We finally are ready to leave and leave Rochester. The flight itself to JFK was fine. However, it definitely took a lot longer flight time than I thought it would. It’s only about a 45 minute flight to Newark and not much longer to Boston.

6:30 PM-Finally arrived in JFK and deplaned. My flight was pushed back until 8:20 PM so I had some time to grab dinner. Additionally, JetBlue has a wireless hotspot in the terminal so I was able to get on my computer and check information as well as mail.

7:00 PM- Waiting in line at the Cheeburger Cheeseburger restaurant. I paid almost 11 dollars for a cheeseburger and some fries. Absolutely absurd, but its an airport and what are you going to do?

8:00 PM- I arrive at the gate for our flight, as I expected the flight was delayed some more. On my plane I think I only saw one other BC fan on my plane. Hopefully this is not a reflection of the game.

9:30 PM- We finally are set for take off and leave JFK. Note to self, lets stick to the direct flights from now on. I’m not doing well on arriving on time lately.

12:30 AM- Finally arrived in Orlando.

12:45 AM- Jenn and her brother came and picked Beth and I up from the airport. Jenn lives about 20 minutes from the airport and about 10-15 from Disneyworld. When I got off the plane it was 70 degrees at 12:45 in the morning. When I left Rochester during mid day it was maybe 33 degrees. Gotta love Florida!

1:15 AM- Finally arrived at Jenn’s place.Bill and Kelly were already there. Jenn’s family is really nice.

2:00 AM- Bed Time!

9:30 AM- Wake up time!

9:45 AM- Shower and getting ready

10:15 AM- Breakfast and getting ready. Half of us went to Wal-Mart to get some booze and food.

11:45 AM- We leave for the Citrus Bowl to head off to our tailgate. We’re stocked with booze and food and ready for a great game!

1:30 PM- We’ve finally set up and are ready to go. The fun begins. The tailgate field we had looked like a practice football field. It was pretty legit.  However, we were very outnumbered considering that there were no more than 5 BC tailgates on our lot and the rest belonged to MSU. Our original tailgate consisted of myself, Chris, Jenn, Luis, Beth, Dan, Erica, Vanessa and her family, Bill, and Kelly. However, there were many other of our friends who made the trip and many of them stopped by throughout the course of the day. At one point we had a legit 30 or so BC students at our tailgate. Overall the tailgate went very well despite being out numbered. It was a beautiful day with great food booze and good friends.

4:30 PM- It was time to enter the stadium. Along the way we received a good amount of heckling from the MSU fans. It was very confusing and unwarranted considering they were saying things like “gold is ugly” and “the eagle sucks.” Way to heckle, seriously come up with something more creative. For whatever reason people could not seem to grasp the concept of the Superfan shirt. Well, I guess that’s why we are BC and they are MSU.

I love going to these games and traveling, but at the same time I forget how much stress and shit I go through while I am at these games. And let me also state before I go any further that I know that I am just a fan, but I tend to take these things pretty seriously and I care a whole lot so that probably explains why I feel the way I do at times. Coming off of the opening kickoff in which we allowed them to take it to our 18 yard line was not a good start to the game. And it certainly didn’t get a whole lot better when we followed up letting them score an opening drive TD with a bunch of 3 and out’s. However, after getting off to a slow start we began to rebound and took control. Jags/Logan called a great play fake on the one yard line for the first touchdown and Ryan’s 29 yard strike to Gunnell in the back of the end zone was wide open and beautiful. After holding State two two field goals Steve-O connected on one of his own and then finally Ryan and Gunnell gave us some cushion when Ryan hit Gunnell beautifully with a 69 yard bomb to make it 24-13. However, BC never makes it easy and this was no different. I’m not sure why Jags/Logan called for a screen pass when all they really needed to do was churn out some yardage and clock and because of that fumble State put a touchdown and two point conversion. However, our defense took over and stopped State the next two times thanks also to two muffed punts by the return man for State and Paul Anderson’s interception as well as Ryan’s 2 yard plunge on 4 and 1 sealed the deal for BC. The game clock finally hit zero and BC came out on top 24-21. People were going nuts and it was a great win.

After the celebration was over and we exited the stadium we made it back to our tailgate to figure out what are plans were. We decided to check out latitudes even though some of us (well only me really) we under 21. We drove down to Church Street and checked it out. It was a pretty nice area and pretty lively especially since it was a Friday night and four football teams were in town. The Latitude bar was basically the BC bar but unfortunately they wouldn’t let me in so I had to pass on it. Instead I went and grabbed dinner and hung out with Sam and Kyle for the night. We grabbed some pizza and then just hung out on Church Street people watching and judging all the bar goers that were out in full force. I’m going to try to keep this as PG-13 as possible but girls really take going out to bars and clubs to a whole new level. Honestly, I felt as if some girls were not even wearing any clothes at all…does that really feel comfortable or do you really think that it looks good? I guess that’s what you do when you people watch and observe but it was pretty ridiculous. I’m not gonna lie most guys like looking at that but at the same time it looks and seems pretty ridiculous. When we were walking along church street a bunch of girls in those blue, red, and pink really short plaid skirts came up to us and asked us where we were going. At first I swore they could have been streetwalkers but they were really just girls that worked for a bar/club that were trying to get people to come in. Well it almost worked, minus the fact that the club looked kinda sketchy and I’m not 21. Although I was disappointed I didn’t get to go into the clubs/bars I really couldn’t complain. I was in Orlando staying for free, we just won a huge game and I still had much more fun to come. Its not like I could have magically turned 21 and I don’t have a fake. Oh well, I’ll be 21 in a year.

12:45 AM- They leave the club and come out and we’re ready to head on home. Everyone is pretty exhausted, and umm for the most part pretty drunk. While we’re waiting for all of us to get assembled this huge guy comes over and drapes his arms over Bill and Dan…he was big…black and sweaty as balls. He had a white shirt on and he was soaked in it. He was hilarious but obviously there was a catch…he wanted money. Eventually Dan gave him a dollar but he also posed for some pictures in the mean time. Here they are for the enjoyment of you all.

1:30 AM- We finally made it back to Jenn’s. We were planning on going to Magic Kingdom in the morning and we were all exhausted sow e headed to bed very early.

8:15 AM- Wake up time, we’re planning on heading over to Magic Kingdom around 930-10 so all of us need to eat and get ready by then.

9:45 AM- Magically all of us are ready to go by 9:45, talk about organization and planning..must be the UGBC in all of us. We head over to Magic Kingdom for the day.

10:15 AM- We’ve arrived at Disney and we take the Monorail to Magic Kingdom. Along the way we picked up Meghan Cassie and Sam. We’re ready for a great day of fun! I’m definitely looking to hit up some characters for some pictures.

We started off the day with Splash Mountain. It was a 50 minute wait but still a favorite of everyone we had with us. I actually never have been on it but I’ve been on rides similar to it before. The wait wasn’t too bad and everyone else was doing it so I decided to give it a shot. Basically it was like an extended log ride with Disney characters mixed in as well. It was a lot of fun and we got a little wet but it wasn’t too bad.

After Splash Mountain we headed over to Thunder Mountain. At first I wasn’t so sure because it was an hour wait as well as the fact that I wasn’t a big fan of Roller-coaster type rides, but I was told it wasn’t too bad and it was fun as well so I gave it a shot. They were right and I actually had a pretty good time. There was really only one spot where I felt my stomach drop. The rest was fine and they also give you recovery times between the drops and such so I didn’t have a problem with it.

Once we finished that ride people were starting to get hungry so we decided to grab lunch. Like every day, Disney was busy so we decided to hit up the Turkey Leg stand. Basically, it was a huge drumstick and everyone went to town on it.

After lunch, we all felt a tad bit sleepy but wanted to venture onward. We headed over to the Haunted Mansion ride which did not have a long wait either. I had been on it in the past but it had been awhile. It wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t anything spectacular either. Regardless, I find the logistics, simulation and engineering of the Disney operation very interesting. The way they figure out how long lines will be as well as the design of the lines so that you think your moving a lot quicker than you are and such is very fascinating to me. I can’t imagine how impatient I was when I was little.

After Haunted Mansion we headed over to Mickey’s Phillharmagic. This was a newer show and it was in 3-D and also a favorite of mine. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it as well and we got to wear the cool glasses so all in all it was a good time.

Next was Monster’s Inc. Laugh Factory. It was kind of corny, a little bit funny and really geared towards the younger crowd. After Monsters Inc. we got some ice cream and then split up, as some wanted to do Pirates of the Carribbean and others wanted to do the Race Track ride. Personally, I was pulling for Mickey’s Toontown Fair the entire day, but there weren’t too many people who showed an interest in it. Mickey’s Toontown is where all the cool characters hangout, but oh well, I’ll be back in a few weeks/months.

Most of us went on the Pirates ride which really wasn’t that long of a wait. However as we got to the front of it they started having some technical problems in the process. In the meantime to keep us at bay we saw a kid with quite possibly the biggest unibrow in the entire world. It was quite interesting and brought a few laughs. The Pirates ride was pretty cool because the animation and design made it look so real. At one point Sam wasn’t sure if we were indoors or outdoors.

After Pirates we headed back to our meeting point. The entire castle was lit up with beautiful lights as was the big Christmas tree which proved necessary for some team pictures. My albums are up on Facebook so feel free to check them out at any time. Eventually we met up with the rest of the crew and we went back to Jenn’s for dinner. Since everyone was so exhausted and some of us were leaving we decided to watch the Pat’s game at home and pack it in for the night. It proved to be a good decision as nobody was in a real mood to go out and get hammered.  Overall, this was an awesome trip and a great time. Despite the fact that I was younger I really enjoyed spending time with the seniors and they really made me feel right at home. I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to go and despite how old I get I never get sick of Disneyworld, I think I really just enjoy it more each and every time.

Back to the reason why I came, what a great year for BC football! You can say what you want, whether O’Brien left the cupboard full, whether Jags had it easy or whether TOB was good for BC or not but I think that is missing the point. The point is that this team pulled together and went out and played 120% each and every one of their 14 games this season. And although they didn’t win every game they never quit and never gave up. They left it all on the field each and every chance that they had. I’ll be quite honest, this team could have been better and could have taken it to even a higher level, but their performance this year was still great and they showed a lot of heart and effort. And players like Matt Ryan, Jamie Silva and Jo-Lonn Dunbar do not come around too often, and it was enjoyable being able to see them play their final game in BC uniform’s. It will be interesting to see what happens in the years to come but I know for sure that  this was a great trip and experience, and I have to hand it to our wonderful hosts of Jenn and her family. They were so welcoming and receptive of all of us that it really made the time spent so much more enjoyable. It was a great trip with great people primarly of one great organization, and I look forward to getting back to BC and continuing the great work we’ve started in this past school year. Go Eagles!

Last week of the semester…

Wow..I can’t believe that I am writing this entry. So basically, the last week of the semester starts monday and it is a rather short week indeed. I have two finals left on Tuesday and then I am done for the semester. I head back to Rochester on Wednesday morning. Needless to say, this semester has been quite an experience and a hell of a lot of fun. There was never a dull moment, never any free time to just sit and never a time where I wished I wasn’t here. I absolutely loved every second of it and really soaked it all in. This semester involved retreats, day trips, weekend trips, football games, trips to Eagles Deli, random malls, and in a few weeks two more trips, one to Orlando for the Bowl game and to Mexico for a service trip. It also involved a lot of work, between my campus job, my job at Hotgrinds and my classes. This semester also involved a lot of firsts. First time to South Carolina, to Indiana, first real CSOM classes, first really really shitty test grade and first time growing a pair.

However, looking back, I realize that the two most important things to me that I take from this semester are friends and reflection. I know its cliche to say I wouldn’t be here without my friends but honestly that is the reality of it all. This year I’ve been able to maintain, grow and solidify a good deal of relationships and the way that our group is forming is wonderful. Its so great just to be able to call anyone up and go to dinner, or travel together or go out together etc, not to mention the wonderful words of wisdom, gossip at Eagles Nest and countless jokes and laughs that we all share.

This semester, reflection was something that played a huge role in my life. Attending McQuaid definitely demonstrated to me the power and usefulness of reflection but this semester more than ever really elucidated that point of emphasis. Because of the things I did or places I went or people I talked to I spent a great deal of time reflecting on my life, my decisions and the type of person I am and what I want to be. I won’t lie, its not all good, its kind of scary, but I’m glad I did it because it makes me more aware of the person that I am. In a way as well, I have to give credit to Boston College the university, because constantly whether it is done on purpose or not I am put into a position where I need to think about things and reflect, whether its for an assignment, for a class discussion or lately, for the reasons that I really am in CSOM.

Like I said, not all the reflecting has been positive, but if anything, its enligthening and interesting. As of now, I love where I am, what I’m doing and I enjoy every second of my life but I’m definitely in a weird stage in my life, possibly coinciding with the fact that I just turned 20. Anyway, looking back,  I feel like this semester has been a semester of growth and development, fun times and countless laughs. Bitchout sessions and UGBC pep talks, emotional highs and lows and now as finals come upon us sleepless nights and gallons of coffee. Despite the things that haven’t been so good I can thoroughly say that I’ve loved this semester more than any other, and I love the people I am around with more than anything else in the world. and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Peace

So yeah, the goal is to die after I turn 20, not before. Hopefully I can make it there. To top it off, exams begin next week, which I am not to enthralled about.

Anyway, as many of you know BC got screwed out of a good bowl game because we don’t put enough people in the stands. It’s not fair, its totally capitalistic and has no merit to do with how good of a football team we are but I guess that’s just the nature of the business. We either win the ACCCG, start putting fans in the stadium or accept that we’ll never go to a good bowl game, either of the three. I have decided to do my part, and I will be traveling to Orlando when BC plays Michigan State on December 28th 2007. Although one person won’t make a difference, if more people begin to do so maybe it will gain some traction. We’ll work within Athletics to see if we can get something done.  Besides,  players like Matt Ryan, Jamie Silva and Jo-Lonn Dunbar don’t grow on trees. They really are special players and I would love to see them put on that jersey one last time.

One Love

Update: My Trip To Clemson

This past weekend I took a trip to Clemson South Carolina to watch Boston College take on Clemson in a battle for the Atlantic Division Championship in the ACC. I was invited on behalf of BC athletics and I eagerly accepted, and myself, James Leonard, Chris Denice, Justin Robinson, Katherine Waters and Chris Poulos joined some other member of BC Athletics as well as alumni and boosters on a trip to Clemson South Carolina. Here is a blog of my trip, enjoy and leave comments.

 Saturday November 17th 2007

7:15 AM- Alarm goes off. It is so early, but I’m eager to get up because today I will be traveling to Clemson SC to watch the BC Eagles take on the Clemson Tigers in a huge football game. This is the chance for BC to get to an ACC Championship game and potentially gain a BCS berth. We will be flying down to Clemson with the rest of the Boosters as well as members of BC Athletics.

7:30 AM- Shower, it is freezing outside. I can tell because my window is open and after I showered I felt like the cool arctic breeze aka my room.

7:45 AM- James, Chris and I try to figure out what we’re wearing. The band is given a business casual attire but we don’t necessarily have a dress code.

8:00 AM- Finally decide.

8:05 AM- Leave Walsh. A picture of the hallway before we leave.

On a sidenote, although the picture is somewhat funny, I feel terrible for the janitors. We really make a mess sometimes and they are so good and such nice people. Seriously, lets get our shit together guys, stop being bro’s.

8:10 AM- Arrive at lower. Coffee and breakfast is in order.

8:15 AM- Chris Poulos meets up with us. Besides the volleyball and swim teams we are the only people in the dining hall.

8:30 AM- Arrive at Conte Forum, await the bus.

8:45 AM- All of us are here and the band is loading the bus. We are ready to go. Chris Denice looks like he is ready to fall asleep.

9:05 AM- We board the bus and head off to Handscom Air Force Base.

10:00 AM- We arrive at Handscom Air Force Base in Bedford Mass and check in. They have regular TSA security so it takes awhile to get everyone through.

10:45 AM- Upon inspection of an ID it appears that Justin’s ID does not expire until 2054. The TSA agents cannot believe it and have to scan and double check it.

10:49 AM- We board the plane.

10:51 AM- The plane is sick! It’s a regular 757-200. We are two in a row with the middle open on the entire plane.

10:54 AM- The front of the plane gets a gift bag. I wish I could snag one.

11:00 AM- Everyone else begins boarding.

11:30 AM- We depart Handscom Air Force Base.

1:30 PM- We arrive at Greenville Airport in South Carolina. I call my Mom and Dad to let them know I arrived.

1:31 PM- My mom tells me not to drink.

1:31 PM- My dad chuckles lightly in the background.

1:45 PM- Unload from the plane, catch a bus to Clemson.

1:50 PM- Adult Entertainment Sign spotted. Chuckles among us all

1:55 PM- Big Zack’s sign spotted. More laughs

2:30 PM- We’re really in the south

2:40 PM- Wow… we just turned onto one of the main streets in Clemson. There are bars and frat houses on one side of the road and each has their own little party

going on. This looks insane.

2:42 PM- Holy crap. There are even more tailgates on this other street. This place is nuts

2:45 PM- Natty Light is spotted. Guess college is still college down here.

3:00 PM- Arrive at our tailgate. Food is served

3:20 PM- Food is finished, that was soooo good. Ribs, pulled pork, chicken, salad, sweet tea and much more. I am so full

3:25 PM- Went into the arena to see the Clemson team practice, then got kicked out by some bush league manager.

3:45 PM- Walked around, meet up with some other kids and go to some Clemson’s kid’s tailgate.

3:50 PM- Holy Christ there is a whole new section of tailgates. This place is absurd.

4:00 PM- Arrive at kids tailgate. Kids seem nice, this kid is kinda weird but they’re offering free food/drink.

4:02 PM- Watching kids play beruit. There are two cups left on each side

4:10 PM- Each team now has one cup each

4:30 PM- Each team still has one cup each

4:38 PM- This is weird, decide to leave before flip cup starts.

4:45 PM- Walk back towards the stadium. There are so many people and tailgates.

4:55 PM- Run into insensitive Clemson students who are shouting racial slurs. Dumb douchebags

5:00 PM- Make it back to around where we began, still have two hours to kill so we start walking around.

5:10 PM- While waiting in line for the bathroom we meet this Clemson fan, real nice guy.

5:15 PM- ACC Camera takes a shot of us, look for us on theacc.com

5:25 PM- Walk towards more tailgates, this time it’s the RV section.

5:30 PM- HOLY COW. These people are insane. This one RV had a tri-fold flatscreen system with a LCD monitor on the inside as well. People have direct TV

satellite’s hooked up and everything. This place is 1000x more intense than Boston College.

5:45 PM- Go back to the gate, see the BC team come in.

5:47 PM- Jags and Matty Ice just got off the bus. Matt looks baller with that camera on him and that stoic look

5:49 PM- Steveo slaps us up, excited to see us.

5:58 PM- Meet up with the rest of the group.

6:05 PM- Head back to the tailgate, James gets a few brews in him, just hang around for a bit.

6:10 PM- Meet up with the founder of BCRC, takes us to a tailgate that already ended more or less.

6:15 PM- Start walking around again looking at tailgates.

6:30 PM- Meet some really nice Clemson fans. From a little south of Clemson and had some friends from Boston that were visiting. They offered us food and drink and

we stayed there for awhile. They were very nice.

7:20PM- We head to the stadium, holy cow it’s a long line to get in.

7:30 PM- Get in the stadium, head to the bathroom

7:40 PM- Finally arrive in our seats, holy cow these seats are sick. We are about 20 rows from the front with a great view on the side of the endzone.

7:50 PM- Game Time

1st Quarter Notes

Wow, rough first drive. And umm, this place is ridiculously loud.

We’re getting owned, we need pressure up front.

Harper isn’t doing anything special he’s just taking what the defense is giving him.

Christ that was quick, this is gonna be a long game unless we can slow this game down.

OK, starting to move the ball.

I like the mix of pass-run, its paying off thus far.

Callendar is going to have a monster game, there is no stopping him.

Why don’t we use Steve-O?!?!  I have a hard time settling on going for a 4th and 9.

This guy next to us has like no teeth and is piss drunk. He is trying to make fun of BC but hes dumb as rocks.

The Clemson fans behind us are nice though and are chatting with us. Seems like we both have kicker issues.

2nd Quarter

Defense is bending but not breaking and forcing them to punt.

Our offense needs to step it up.

Wow, that was a terrible time to take a sack.

I don’t get the buzz over thunder and lightning.

Finally a field goal.

OK, we’re not out of this yet.

Stop getting stupid penalties!

UPDATE: Stupid fan is gone

Update again: Random 11 year old is here. Freaking crazy kid but he’s the man.

Crazy kid calls out Chris Poulos, hilarity ensues.

Crazy little kid says to “Fear the Asians” even more hilarity ensues.

Come on defense get a stop!

OK, a field goal isn’t so bad.

Wow that was a terrible throw for an interception, we need to get our shit together.

Ok, they couldn’t do anything with it, no blood.

FINALLY, Great kick Steve! See what happens when they let you kick it!

Shit, come on defense, nothing underneath!

11:36 PM – Jumped over the balcony onto the field.

11:38 PM- Running around hugging jumping and moshing on each other.

11:40-11:55- Pictures are taken, hugs are given and shouting is done.

12:00 AM- leave the field, head back to the bus.

5:15 AM- Get back at BC, await the teams return

5:45 AM- Team returns, meet up with them and slap em up.

6:00 AM- Back to my room, pass out.

What an unbelievable experience! I can’t even explain it, it was just unreal and unbelievable to say the least. I had so much fun and I am so glad that I was able to go on this trip. Easily one of the top 10 sporting events I’ve been t o all time and probably top 3.

Rutgers coach Stringer says Thomas’ comments in deposition ‘disgusting’

Vivian Stringer, the Women’s Rutgers basketball coach who was at the center of Don Imus’s controversial comments concerning the Rutgers women’s basketball team is at it again. This time, she is quoted as speaking out against the deposition and statements that Isiah Thomas had made in his sexual discrimination lawsuit that he lost two weeks ago.  In response to his statements, Stringer is quoted as saying “You want to know what I really felt? It was disgusting. What does he think?” Stringer said. “This was a woman first. He has no right to put her down, and then think it’s OK for me to put her down but it’s not alright for a white man to put her down. What are you talking about? She is a human being and as a female, and in particular as a black female, I took tremendous offense to that.” Additionally, Stringer also said she wish people ”would say Rutgers, the national runner-up, and leave it at that.”

In response to Stringer’s comments, Thomas urged Stringer to “get the facts.” He said, “”I’m not sure what she said, but if she would like to hear the facts and not the edited portion of what I supposedly said, I’m not hard to find,” he said after the Knicks’ preseason loss to New Jersey. “It’s easy to get what I said. So don’t speak from ignorance, get the facts about what I said and not the portion that was taken out of context.”

While Thomas has his own set of issues, I really am starting to get tired of Stringer. What Don Imus said was wrong and very inappropriate to say on national radio. While everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and beliefs I would go even further to say that I would not want to be assoicated with someone who even thought about those types of things in their head. But Stringer is absolutely off her rocker. The reason why I take umbrage with Stringer is because during her grandstanding, countless tv interviews and putting her personal interests out for the media to soak in the real story of women’s college basketball was overlooked. In the midst of it all, the Tennessee Volunteers women’s basketball program had an incredible season and beat Rutgers in the championship game to win the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately, because of the controversey that overshadowed the game nobody talks about it. Instead, all we remember is Stringer and her agenda and issues. On one hand, Stringer wants to the media to remember Rutgers for their remarkable season and the wonderful character of their team but on the other hand she continues to talk about racial issues that are unrelated to Rutgers basketball. What exactly do you want Vivian? You can’t have it both ways. Now as I am finishing this blog, I Just saw an article from ESPN that Stringer has called Zeke to apologize. Seems like she came to her senses.

Darius Washington Jr puts his past behind and moves forward

darius-washington-jr.jpg

Dave McMenamin, over at NBA.com recently wrote a blog about the wherabouts of Darius Washington Jr. As some of you may remember, Washington was the highly touted point guard who had a promising freshman season with Memphis until he missed three straight free throws with no time left to lose the Conference USA Championship game. Anyway, McMenamin spotted Washington in a Spurs preseason game. Washington Jr has re-emerged from his shortcomings, that game, going undrafted after sophomore season. He played last year in Greece and hooked up with the Spurs and has been fighting for a spot on the team. However, the Spurs already have 15 players and three point guards, which makes it tough to take Washington. Washington is one of my favorite players/points in basketball history to make fun of, but at the same time it’s always nice to see those who fall down get back up.

MJ and his competitiveness..Vid Link

image.jpg

I don’t know about you, but for the longest time Michael Jordan was my idol. I watched all his games, followed all his commercials and I thought he was the best basketball player to step on the court. While some of this is true, it can also be said that MJ probably wasn’t the best idol to pick, after his gambling problems, his divorce from his wife and getting caught trying to double dip multiple times, Jordan isn’t what we like to call perfect. But hey, nobody is, and I don’t hold any hard feelings. Anyway, as we all know MJ was a fierce competitor, whether it was basketball, pogs, pokemon or checkers. And there have been stories of MJ getting tough and physical with teammates in practice and such. Here is a link to a story about some of those stories. Quite an interesting video I must say. While he might have done these things, it appears that people still respect him for his ability to play basketball. Nevertheless, I guess the important thing is not to get MJ mad or else he sock you in the mouth.

Bills petition for game in Toronto

7208a438785b4eca80de6ec91e099fbc.jpg

According to ESPN, the Buffalo Bills are in the process of applying for a permit that would allow them to play 1 preseason and 1 regular season game in Toronto in future NFL seasons. In order for this to occur, the Bills must get permission from the city of Buffalo as well as the NFL. Getting permission from the NFL should not be too difficult as other teams over the past few seasons have played games in Mexico and Europe. Ralph Wilson, I have one plea for you. As a diehard Bills fan who still loves the Bills dearly even though we’ve had terrible seasons since the Music City Miracle please keep the team in Buffalo. While I understand the need for profits and how you don’t plan oin giving the team to someone in your family, please before you croak make sure whoever gets ownership of the team keeps it in Buffalo. If you want to make Western New York even more miserable than it already is (which I cant even fathom) then sell the team. But if you want to give it some hope and potentially make it less terrible to live in our lovely state then keep the Bills put.

Game Notes1st Quarter Jimmy Clausen runs a total of 3 different plays every time.

ND has no running gameTV timeouts are terrible.

Andre Calendar TOUCHDOWN. LV Breaks off a diesel run and Calendar finishes it up.

BC’s defense isn’t great but is holding the Irish to no points

Steve is struggling a bit, Special teams will hurt us in the future weeks much more if we cannot get it together.

Obnoxious ND fan to the left of us.Nice ND fans to the right Nice ND fans behind us. They are interested to learn about BC football.

2nd Quarter

Not doing anything really special on offense. Don’t’ seem to be going for that explosion play that Justin Jarvis mentioned in his interview last week.

Defense is holding up strong. Giving up some first downs but no points and running game is non-existent.

img_2588-medium.JPG

Can we please stop with the stupid personal fouls (This is directed at this point towards BC, not the refs)

TV timeouts are the worst invention ever.

Finally a good drive.Atta boy Calendar way to punch it in.

ND fans boo everything even when it clearly is a touchdown. No jumbotron and instant replay is confusing me.

HALFTIME

Marching band here is amazing.Nice oldies music.Your’re just too good to be true. I can’t take my eyes off of you…you’d be like heaven to touch…I wanna hold you so much….I like the dance, mad props to the marching band.1963, great song as well. I have to say, I might not like their institution or football team but I surely respect the tradition and commitment to the football team.

3rd Quarter

We need points. We could have used a score to open the half right here.

Way to get it back.

Dunbar you are a beast…peace Clausen.

ATTA BOY CHALLENGER.Clausen is out, Sharpley is in.This kid is way better than Clausen.

Wow, can we please stop with the personal fouls?(Directed at BC and refs)

Tribble stop going for picks.

TD ND- They seriously act like they’ve never scored before. This stadium is going nuts.

We’re playing Dana Bible ball here.

Bad hands….not totally your fault Matty.

Wow, this penalty is so fitting. ND acts all high and mighty and celebrates to the nth degree and gets an excessive celebration penalty. Gonna hurt them later.Score is now 20-14.

Nice return buddy.Short field, take advantage of their stupidity.

There you go Matty.B-ROB nice catch.27-14.

4th QuarterTake some time off this clock.

Good movement, keep the first downs coming.

I swear if we get another penalty that is either holding or a personal foul I am going to rip someones head off. These referees are ridiculous.

I’m not going to be that guy who claims conspiracy theory but how many personal fouls are we going to freaking get?ND had a 35 yard drive just now. 30 of those yards came from 2 15 yard penalties.

img_2606-medium.JPG

OK can we please seriously stop with the personal fouls? (Now I am blaming the refs for this)Can we also please tackle and wrap up the Quarterback?

I can’t see the replay so I have no idea where the ball should be spotted.FUCK

Wait…holding…YES

Charlie Weis you have a lot of balls for calling that play….it would have been awesome if it worked but that really was very dumb.Turnover…good work boys.Calendar keep that clock moving.

HOLY SHIT NICE….

HOW MANY HOLDING PENALITIES ARE WE GOING TO GET!?!4th and 10…why are we going for it?Turnover on downs….hmmm I don’t know about this playcalling that we have.

Way to be defense, way to shut it down.Final Score:

Boston College 27 Notre Dame 14

img_2616-medium.JPG

7:30 PM- Leave, go to student section7:33 PM-

Run to the 2nd floor, BC students are cheering, yelling and singing. I jump on someone.

img_2614-medium.JPG

7:35 PM- For Boston and other chants are being sang.

7:36 PM- I yell nonsensical phrases.

7:37 PM- Find the guys, head back to the tailgate. ND girls are wack

7:39 PM- Notre Dame fans can really be elitist arrogant assholes.

7:45 PM- War stories are shared. A couple ND students who said ND is no fun, two of us getting kicked out of the student section as well as a couple near fights and issues with ND security and police.

8:00 PM- Dinner and tailgate.

img_2630-medium.JPG

9:15 PM- Pack up to head back

9:25 PM- On the road.

9:45 PM- Should have grabbed a water. Can’t find it in the cooler. Gonna be a long drive
